In the Diocese of Paterson, the Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred in the 10th Grade. The guidelines for the reception of this Sacrament are issued by the Office of the Bishop. The guidelines state that each candidate must attend the two-year preparation sessions (9th & 10th Grade). All candidates for Confirmation must attend these sessions in their parish. It makes no difference if they are Public or Catholic High School students. Each candidate must attend one retreat each year, offered by the Confirmation Program, and must complete a specific number of hours of Community Service each year to be confirmed.
At St. Rose of Lima, our sessions are held on Sunday evenings, usually beginning at 5:45 pm on class nights and 5:30 pm on speaker nights. Sessions conclude with the 7:00 pm mass each night. Each group (9th & 10th Grade) meets approximately one or two times per month, beginning in September and ending sometime in the spring. In addition to these academic sessions, retreats are part of the Confirmation Preparation Program. Typically one retreat per grade level is scheduled each year. Community Service is also an integral part of the program. Many opportunities are provided for the students' participation.
